200,000 people benefit from Qatar Charity projects in Somalia

The number of beneficiaries of charitable projects carried out in Somalia in cooperation with international humanitarian organisations reached 200,000 people, at a cost of $6.3m, between 2009 and 2017, according to a report by the Qatar Charity (QC). The projects directly covered emergency relief, education, healthcare, water, sanitation, food security, displaced resettlement, economic empowerment and sustainable development.
The report said the partnerships that linked QC through its Somalia office included Unicef, FAO, UNHCR, the International Medical Corps, the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Global One organisation. Since its establishment in 2007, the Qatar Charity Office in Somalia has been able to establish strong links with international organisations through joint cooperation agreements to achieve humanitarian and development goals including an agreement with UNICEF in the areas of education, health and water in mid-January 2009, worth $1.6m, which were funded equally with Qatar Charity, benefiting 35,000 children and women.
