Ethiopian troops’ evacuation from some parts of Somalia has nothing to do with the state of emergency declared on October 8, 2016, said Government Communication Affairs Office (GCAO).
“Our troops who are not under AMISOM are leaving some parts of Somalia assuming that the international community and the Somalia National Army will fill the gap,” he said.
However, Ethiopian troops under AMISOM will continue carrying out their mission.
Ethiopia has more than 2,000 troops under AMISOM.
The Minister further said that Ethiopian parliament will convene between now and next week and endorse Premier Minister Hailemariam Desalegn’s proposal of reshuffling his government.
The Prime Minister is also expected to defend plan of his government based on the motion to endorse the remarks made by President Mulatu Teshome.
Commenting on the gains of state of emergency, Getachew said it helped to normalize situation as well as created favorable situations to bring those responsible for the unrests to justice and to retrieve ransacked weapons.
