Djibouti sought Ethiopia’s backing for two posts at AU

Djibouti requested Ethiopia’s support in its bid to two of the commissioner posts in the African Union Commission.

Foreign Minister of Djibouti Mahamoud Ali Youssouf made the request during a consultation with Deputy Prime Minister Demeke Mekonen here today.

During the meeting, the Djiboutian Minister told the Deputy PM that his country needs Ethiopia’s support to win the election to be held in the upcoming AU Summit.

Djibouti has presented two candidates, for the posts of Deputy Chairmanship of the AUC and political affairs commissioner.

Youssouf also presented a letter sent to Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn from President Ismail Omar Guelleh, inviting the Ethiopian Premier to attend the inauguration ceremony of Ethio-Djibouti railway, scheduled to take place after two weeks.

Deputy Prime Minister Demeke told the Djiboutian Minister that Ethiopia will consider the request, according to a high level official who attended the meeting.
